Approach

Building a new public sphere

Sopinspace brings the best of Internet technology and social processes to fuel new public debate, participatory democracy and collaborative applications. We hope to help building a public sphere that enriches democratic decision making and collaborative activities. We bring to our customers:

  • our technological know-how for the development of innovative Web 2.0 services and the integration of free software solutions for co-operative Web sites,
  • organisation methods for debate and co-operation processes, which we adapt to each domain (stakeholders, topics, types of data and documents).

Our objectives are:

  • to make possible for all citizens, in full respect of their diversity of opinions, to build and express their views in quality debates,
  • to provide decision makers with reliable input on the landscape or arguments, preferences, positions and options, as to enable better public policy or organisation/company strategy choices.

We are particular committed to the transfer of competence towards our customers (organisers of debate or collaborative processes) and towards end-users. We provide editorial, facilitation and support services for the full-life cycle of applications that we develop.

Philosophy and methods

Supporting collaborative work and public debate activities require similar organisational and technical know-how. On this basis, we apply methods that combine:

Free software

The usage and development of free/open source software (F/OSS) is for Sopinspace a philosophic as well as a pragmatic choice. The essential tools of expression and exchange in the public sphere can not become proprietary without democracy and capabilities of all being harmed in their development. Inventing new tools calls for a free and cumulative experimentation by people distributed across the planet. Only F/OSS software makes it possible. Pragmatic choice also, for our company to be able to provide rich functional solutions at a reasonable cost.
